Etienne
Marais is a photographer based in Centurion, South
Africa. His work includes portraits, landscapes, macro
photography and a method to capture
stereoscopic (3D) images with standard photographic
equipment.
In his subjects he aims to capture a hidden essence,
an unguarded moment where the person shows something
beyond the ego and the barriers of awareness. He
prefers to create a chiaroscuro-effect when lighting
his subjects. Chiaroscuro is a term in art for a
contrast between light and dark. His inspiration
comes from photographers like Jan Saudek, Annie
Leibovitz, Fayyaz Ahmed and Richard Avedon.
He has worked in the South African film industry as
an editor and cameraman and is also involved in art,
music, writing, web design and is a qualified IT
engineer. |
